Description
We are very proud to offer our very first CSA during the 2025 season! It’s a simple proposition: we grow vegetables, flowers and herbs, and you pay for them in advance for a discounted price.
Why is a CSA a good idea?
A CSA is more cost-effective for growers AND eaters. Your initial investment gains you fresh, seasonal, high-quality produce immediately as it becomes available. For us, it’s a guaranteed and predictable market, allowing us to focus on growing good food and worrying much less about where it will be sold.
We pride ourselves in delivering solid value because we know budgets are tight: our baskets are bountiful, and you can expect enough to share with a family of four.
Plus, gain a connection to the land and farmers who grow your food. Friends of the Farm members are welcome on the farm (almost) anytime.
Why choose Slowcraft?
When you buy your veggies from us, you’re investing in high quality produce chock full of the best nutrients our healthy soil has to offer. We grow a large variety of heirloom crops that are unique to the Ottawa market (we love weird veggies!) so you can expect a few surprises throughout the season. Plus, no more checking grocery store labels for Canadian grown produce, we source our seeds and natural soil amendments from Canadian small businesses.
Friends of the Farm members are our #1 growing priority for the season. Our very best produce will always be set aside for our members, with harvesting times chosen to maximize freshness specifically for you. We’d love to be your farmers!
What are we going to get in a typical box?
Currently, we only grow in-season vegetables. So that means a lot of greens, onions and beets earlier in the season, with peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, zucchini and more coming into season as summer marches on. Each box also contains a selection of specialty kitchen herbs you won’t find anywhere else in town.
Here is a full list of what we grow.
You said you had flowers?
Yep! Friends of the Farm will have the option to receive a fresh, lovingly-arranged flower bouquet with their box (when available). For an extra $10 per box, we’ll pad your farm haul from mid-summer onwards with a fresh floral bouquet designed to show off Nature’s best.
Is delivery available?
Yep! $10 per week, $5 scheduled in advance. (Delivery area is within City of Ottawa limits or communities within 30 minutes of drive of our farm, including Kemptville, Carleton Place, Smiths Falls and Almonte. If you’re farther and still want our awesome food, shoot us an email.)
Can I pickup my box from the farm?
Yes, on the farm pickups are a thing! Let’s arrange a time in advance and we’ll make sure to be here.
What is the cost breakdown?
For upfront members: 8 Friends of the Farm Harvest Boxes for $300, or $37.50 per box.
For pay-as-you-go members: $45 per box.
Do I have to pay up front?
We prefer it, but no. A “pay-as-you-go” option is available, but at a slightly higher cost of $45 per box (plus delivery). Due to a limited number of Friends of the Farm spots available, we ask that you please commit to a full season. Pay-as-you-go members must pay $45 in advance (which covers the cost of the first box) for their first delivery in order to secure their spot.
Can I customize my box?
If you truly love something and want more, we’ll be happy to give you more if there is more available. If you hate something, of course we’ll try and replace it with something you love. We do reserve the right to limit customizations.
Can I skip a box?
We know a lot of people vacation in the summer, so for that reason members can skip one of the eight boxes. Instead of a refund, we’ll happily make your next box a double, spread the extra produce over two boxes or donate your box to someone in need. Just send an email and we’ll figure it out.
