“Action on behalf of life transforms. Because the relationship between self and the world is reciprocal, it is not a question of first getting enlightened or saved and then acting. As we work to heal the earth, the earth heals us.”
― Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”
― Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu
We are driven to learn how to grow naturally and sustainably: in farming; in our creative work; in business. Slowcraft is the place where we share the bounty of these efforts with the wider ecosystem, showing how regenerative practices have the power to reshape our world.
At the farm we work with the seasons authentically and creatively to share abundance, build community and regenerate –– together. Slowcraft grows fine quality food, flowers and herbs as well as human-made things, all in the pursuit and appreciation of slowness. No shortcuts, zero pesticides, all heart.
Our values:
- Slow is how we grow. A slower pace allows us to pay attention to feedback from the environment before taking action. The results are more beneficial to the entire system as a whole: higher-quality products for our customers, better ecological outcomes for the land, and farmers with energy left at the end of the day to give back to their community.
- Minimal intervention, maximum regeneration. Low and no-till, cover cropping, living mulches, native species renewal and other soil health-building practices form the core of our toolkit. Taken together, regenerative agriculture has the ability to bank carbon in the soil, fight back against climate change, and produce food that is more nutritious (and delicious!). More of the good stuff gets in when we let nature take the lead.
- More than human made. Real things, crafted by real humans. We collaborate with existing organic networks in Nature and community that are working towards a livable future on Earth.
- Rooted in relationships. Healthy regenerative soil systems share resources and meet challenges together in a way that creates network-wide abundance. We honour this living example of reciprocity by growing connections to the land and community around us.
